blogging is fun

August 28th, 2008 Curtis 2 comments

I know it sounds nerdy.  But posting updates from my life on a quazi-daily basis to blank screen and uploading them to a website for the world to see is actually far more exciting than it sounds.  However, it only becomes exciting when I know that I have a following.  Since itss debut in October of 2007, my blog has been accessed 771 times.  And that’s 770 times more than I ever expected to see.  And that doesn’t count the people reading on Facebook!

What makes the experience even more fun is my fellow bloggers.  I wasn’t sure how much I was going to enjoy reading updates from my friends, but now I look forward to it on a daily basis.  Blogs such as  Existential Crisis (my friend, Kendy), Morning Coffee (my girlfriend), decrypting kenny’s mind (my brother), and Reminisce (my brother’s girlfriend) are blogs that I read faithfully (even though the two latter don’t update too frequently).  Nevertheless, if you are reading this and you have a blog that you would like to share, I would like to know about it.  If you don’t, I invite you to join this blogging revolution….

…or… you really don’t have to, I suppose.

For my faithful following, thanks for reading.  More to come….

my near death experience

August 5th, 2008 Curtis 1 comment

Yesterday, I set my status on facebook to:

Curtis just escaped a near death experience.

While my life was not really in danger, there were enough people questioning this “experience” that I’ve decided to share the story with the world.  So, if you have heard/read this already, I apologize.

I only had a short day of work yesterday as I was in Harrisburg for a quick 2 hour training.  Upon arriving home, I decided that I was going to get some stuff done around the house.  I’m rarely home and consequently rarely have time to keep things “looking nice”.  On the list of things to do: yard work and laundry.

I mowed around the edge of the property and down my driveway (areas that get usually get missed with the riding mower.)  I also pulled some big ugly weeds out of the garden as well as from the turn around area in front of my house.  This was my downfall, and oddly, where the story gets good.

While I was pulling out these weeds I was also pulling up a fair amount of earth with their roots, creating small holes in the ground.  This was my thought process for what happened next:

Well that’s weird… there’s a lot of bugs flying around that hole…

It was about that time when I realized that they weren’t just bugs flying, they were massive* killer** bees.  Had I have hung around much longer than the split second that I did, the outcome may have been much worse.  THERE WERE BEES EVERYWHERE!!!!!  Fortunately for me, I was only stung one time.  In retrospect, I attribute my good fortunes to the fact that I busted out some secret ninja moves known only to the government… but mostly it was because I ran away screaming like a little girl.

So, that was my experience.  It wasn’t horrible, I know.  But, join me next week, for Volume 2 of my near death experience : “Dumping Gasoline into a Bees Nest”
