the *routine

January 14, 2008 by Curtis Leave a Comment

Today was the first day of my last semester of school. Ever? I don’t know. I just know that I’m back in the *routine. I just had the last month of school off. It was a much needed vacation. Granted, I still had to work. But I was able to spend some quality time with my friends, make some new friends, and catch up with some old ones. I also had a chance to put some much needed work into my own business over the break. But that all ended today because now, I’m back in the *routine. It makes me miserable. In fact, I will even go so far as to say that it is disapressing. (see my Words page for the definition).  It’s back to putting off projects to the last minute, averting reading assignments indefinitely, and cramming for exams five minutes prior to their start times. You may be thinking, “Curtis, just do stuff right away, don’t procrastinate. It’s your own fault for being disapressed.” But to that I say, “Nay.” They drive us to this point. I have been in college for 5 years (ish) now and the senioritis has been kicking in since 2006. Generally, I stay somewhat motivated for the first 3 weeks of school during any given semester. During this period of motivation, I actually work ahead and am somewhat productive when it comes to my school work. However, tomorrow is day 2 and I am already giving thought to skipping a class I haven’t been to yet. :) Okay, that’s an exaggeration. But seriously, I have no motivation this semester at all. The *routine sucks. So, if you think about it, maybe pray for me or offer to do my homework. Either one is fine. Tomorrow is day number 2. Only about 79 more days to go! Anyway, I need sleep. Curtis, out.

*the routine refers to me going to school or going to work and for the little time that leaves left in the day, it’s spent doing homework or getting caught up on projects for Xtego. The routine does not leave time for “free time.” And, I just want to go ahead and say that I really hate the routine.

If you guys get a chance. Check out this blog. His name is Nate and he’s recently become the father to Gwyneth. She was born extremely prematurely just a couple days ago. It’s amazing to see how God is working through the whole situation. There are people from just about everywhere praying for this man, his wife, and his new daughter. So, check it out, pray for them, and never underestimate what God can do!

my new lappy

MacBook ProSo, it’s here. After what may be considered by some, and by some I mean me, the longest 4 days in the history of mankind, my computer arrived on my front porch a whole 2 days ahead of its initial eta. It was, at the very least, a pleasant surprise to wake up to this morning. In fact, the only downside to the entire experience was realizing, after I had signed for my package, that I had forgotten to zip up my fly prior to meeting the fedex man on the porch. Meh.

The new computer is everything I imagined it to be, plus some. In fact, the only thing it doesn’t do, is suck. Incase you haven’t figured it out from the picture, I bought me a Mac, and it just goes to show how effective the Mac vs. PC commercials really are. Okay, that wasn’t the sole reason for my purchase, but you have to admit they are catchy. In addition to recently finishing a semester with a multimedia class where the only applications used were Mac-based, I even more recently came across a few individuals who own macs, giving me plenty of opportunity to play around. Needless to say, I caved to the temptation, as I always do, and made the switch from my long Windows running to what can only be described as the elegant and intuitive Leopard, that is OS X.

I must admit, however, that one of the first things I did upon unboxing is install windows on my Mac. Screw Vista. I upgraded and went straight to XP. For the record, I am required to have Windows as part of my major at school and the ability to run both OS’s was a deciding factor in my purchase. The ability to run Windows side by side with OS X is beautiful and almost brings a tear to my eye. I have the best of both worlds at all times. Additionally, the screen savers, the dock, the finder, the spaces, and the customization all make me wish that Apple was in the parade business, cause then I might actually like them. Details aside, if you are looking to by a new computer. I would highly recommend buying a Mac. However, at this point, if one were to ask me, “Curtis, should I buy a Mac?” I would say, “Nay. Do not.” Reason being, I now have a perfectly good dell laptop for sale to the highest bidder. :) I jest. A Mac is a wonderful choice, but be warned, for there is, at this point, only one downside to the Mac and that is the mouse. You guessed it. There’s no right-clicking on this bad boy. While there are alternative methods to “right-click” what is so difficult about adding that extra button? I mean, seriously, everyone wants it, and by everyone I mean me.
