back to the lab – Prayzer

prayzer

The semester is winding down. And while I should being working on papers even as I type this, one can only take so much. However, the end is in sight. In fact my thanksgiving break marks the figurative end of my semester. Not only will it bring an abundance of great food, it should also bring me some time to get caught up on a few projects that I’ve been itching to work on but can’t quite justify knowing that I have a bizillion papers to write for school. These projects include finishing my church’s website once and for all, starting my next web project for a local Williamsport company, and working on my newest facebook application (trial number 3). This application will be called Prayzer. It will be an application that will allow you to share both prayer requests and praises with your friends using the facebook platform. If you don’t have any friends, it could be used to post prayer requests to get some. :) There also will be a way to quickly view requests from all your friends and to type prayer responses back to them. It’s my goal that this application would sit on facebook profiles and perhaps spark questions or interests from non-believers. However, I seem to always have big ideas when it comes to projects like these but then I rarely follow through. Depending on my motivation, Prayzer should surface in a few weeks at which time I will need some beta testers. Oh yes… Katie… Naomi… thank you both for volunteering. :) In the meantime, I could use some prayer to get these papers for school done. And I should be in bed…. just a friendly update.

two-thirds

I have to admit that it is kind of sad looking forward to a weekend for 2 months and then just like that, it is over. Regardless, this weekend was a blast. The Casting Crowns was very good as expected, and I got to spend time with two very cool girls. In addition to being a fun weekend, it was also very informative… We learned several valuable lessons this weekend:

Lessons 1-3:

When copying driving directions from the internet, it’s best to just print them as steps may be missed during handwriting.

When asking for directions. Look for someone who speaks the same language you do.

When looking up directions for a concert. Look for the address for the arena, not the campus. Apparently, some campuses are the size of a small city.

Lesson 4:

Katie needs a rake.

Lesson 5:

Apparently, people really like booths at restaurants.

Lesson 6:

Some people don’t know how to pronounce “creek”.

Lesson 7:

Raspberry salsa isn’t that bad.

Lesson 8:

The game “Never have I ever” really isn’t that fair at all. (but I still won somehow)

Lesson 9:

Watch for throw up when exiting a vehicle.

That’s pretty much everything. In case you didn’t figure it out, we had a hard time finding the concert. Which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. We found out that GPS does work but you have to put in the correct address. We also had a nice self led tour of Lehigh campus. And, we finally got escorted by the campus police to our destination. So while we didn’t exactly get to the concert on time, the 2/3 of it that we saw were very good. I tried to take a few pictures, but they didn’t turn out so well. Katie’s pictures were much better, they are below. concert(This is a picture of the crowd when Mark told everyone to take out his or her cell phone and wave it. You can see them if you look closely.)

On Saturday we went to Kitchen Kettle Village. And first of all, I’d like to apoligize to Katie that we didn’t get to see the fudge making process. I know she was looking forward to that :) It was fun though. I tried pepper jam and found out that raspberry salsa is pretty good. Did we ever figure out what Minced Meat was though? :) I also had a heart to heart with an Amish horse.

Finally, it should be noted that around these activities, we were in the car for hours at a time. Some of us more than others. :) So thank you both for a wonderful weekend. I had a lot of fun… and I hope we can do something like this again in the future.

the ladybug and the shower

November 5, 2007 by Curtis Leave a Comment

So funny story.  But before I tell it, there is a prerequisite that you must know.  Every year around this time, my house become infested with Ladybugs.  Not sure where they come from or why they always show up in the fall.  But anyway, this morning I was in the shower, getting ready to go to class.  From up above a lady bug came hovering down.  Now if you know anything about the flight patterns of ladybugs, you would know that they have none.  Nor do they have any sense of proximity.  Basically they just fly around until they run into something that they can land on.  So this particular ladybug was in a crash course headed straight for my face.  Needless to say I’m not exactly all with it most of the time… let alone in the morning when I first get up.  So I really had no idea what was flying at me and with a .34 second reaction time, with the washcloth in hand, I swing at the ladybug to prevent its attack to my face only to slap my own face with the washcloth filling my eyes with a stream of soapy water.   I felt pretty stupid at the time.  However, when I was finally able to open my eyes 2 minutes later, I was able to witness the ladybug get sucked down the drain to her death.  I somehow felt responsible.
